Xmas Pressie One - Day 253-254

The big push for present making is now on! 
These are two presents I am making up, but will need to be slightly secret squirrel about what they are. 

The pictures probably give some good hints though. 
The fabrics were a great find from a friend, her mum got a bag of fabric scraps from somewhere, lots of strips and random sized bits. This project was PERFECT for them! 

Guess I will need to return back after xmas to add the full shot!!

Name Fairy Painting - Day 244

Fairies and dragons, can't go wrong really! 

The gold paint for the dragons sparkle a bit and add a bit of shine.

Paper Flowers - Day 231

A quick mini paper folding craft today.

This is from Folding Trees,  and if you make heaps of these, you can form a ball. Today, I don’t have the patience for that. I like the idea, but would rather someone else made it for me!!

Resin flowers - Day 112

Resin is my evil part of crafting. It is unpredictable, tricky and even when the mold works, there is a chunk of sanding to do.
These were a mold I did earlier and unmolded today. Once sanded, I'm thinking pendants or earrings.

More Carrots - Day 94

Some more carrots ready to be stitched up. Feel a bit of a craft cheat redoing past crafts... but slight changes to pattern, so eases that a bit!!

Felt butterfly brooch - Day 11

I made a red flower brooch for a friend and was inspired to try a butterfly.

Instead of stitching on the design with  various felt, embroidery or beads, I wanted to try to cut out the design with a craft knife. It has potential, but not sure when I'd use it next.

Mini rough guide of how its done...

Draw up a butterfly with a basic pattern that can be later cut out. 

You will want to keep the outside edge for stitching and just include some basic shapes inside that you can cut out.

Cut out the front and back butterfly shape. Draw the design on the back of the felt you are going to cut.

Using a craft knife, CAREFULLY cut out the inside shapes. The blade HAS to be sharp (trust me!). Sew a small brown or black body section onto the middle.

Once it is all cut, stitch the back and the front together. At this point, you might need to add some tiny holding stitches on parts that stick up. The felt allows you to do this without showing through the back if you aim for the middle.

Done! Now you can add a Brooch pin or attach it to a hairclip. Could also be used as an applique. MIne is missing the classic butterfly feelers, but I'm sure some could be added :)

Fantail and Pohutukawa flowers felt art - Day 3

Made a second fantail and then decided she might look good in a tree... new challenge - Felt Art!
A cream felt background with a tree and some pohutukawa flowers. The fantail is a 3D bird that sits on the branch. I attached the whole thing to a canvas board and it is about 6 inchs square.
In my head, this seemed a potentially quick and easy project... cut the basic shapes, stitch, done!
Reality was much different! (not helped by 2 teens with last minute assignments and maths problems and a younger one just needing to be seen!). This was a project that stretched into crazy late night hours (unfortunately it is SO SO hard to stop a project once you hit a certain point).
