Princess Dress - Day 53-54

This dress has been in the wings for awhile. I put it off a tad longer then I should have, but, as this was for a young girls birthday present, I couldnt put it off much longer!! silly really, as this is about the 6th one of these I've made!

The reason for the delay......a sewing machine suffering from bipolar or split personality.... in fact, it could just be possessed!!

All in all though, with hours of attention, the dress is complete. The photos are a bit rough, but you can see the main parts. It has a scalloped overskirt, big sash that ties at the back, seperate sleeves (with lace, ribbon and buttons) and metres of fabric gathered to make a very full skirt.

Huhu Grub Finger Puppets - Day 51

Yummy??

Huhu bugs are native to NZ and live a rather simple life, as grubs in fallen tree trunks, then a glorious 2 weeks as a free flying beetle. The most popular thing about them here, is that the grubs are eatable, and often are served at food festivals (though, it does tend to be a 'dare you to eat it' cuisine! tastes like peanut butter)

Mine dont taste much like Peanut butter though!!
They are a set of crochet huhu grubs for a new set I'm making.
Next, a dark tree log for them to hide in...

Bieber Graphs - Day 50

Biggest craft push for today, was a possible gift for a girl suffering from severe Bieber Fever.
There are two possibilities I'm tossing up.... a cross-stitched picture for the wall, or use the graph for a crochet piece (pillow or blanket).
 This is an example of the ones I'm considering, its just a normal picture turned into a graph using myphotostitch.com. You can choose size, and how many colours your willing to use. it then generates the pattern with the colours needed in a bigger pdf. If I deside on the crochet option, I will need a picture with simple colours, or black and white.

Wing Awesomeness - Day 49

There are days when the vision you have in your head comes out just about perfect!
Today is that day!
After much thinking about the wings for my painting, I stumbled on tutorials using Fantasy/Angelina Film. I ordered online yesterday and this morning it arrived. All plans for the day dissolved away as I made these wings. Then took depth breaths as I had to wire them into the canvas.
The painting can still be seen through the wings and they are delicate enough that they dont overpower the whole piece.
Its called "Into the Unknown"
